• I’m no web guy so could do with some help! I’ve been having a few issues recently with time outs, blank pages and a really slow loading site. I’ve been told that this could have something to do with the database. commenting is also horribly slow, either it takes 2 minutes to process or I get a time out.

could someone confirm that my issues could be being caused by the SQL DB and if so, how I might be able to solve it?

  • 1) where’s your site? It might help if we see if that is happening for everyone or just for you…

    2) how many includes, etc does your theme use? If you have to fetch a lot of stuff, things slow down

    3) who is your hosting provider? Some are slower than others, frankly.

    4) how many posts and pages does your site have? If the site is huge, then it takes a while to get the data

    5) what version of the software are you using? WordPress, etc…

Those are all good places to start troubleshooting. I’ll leave it for the experts to step in here, but that’s where I’d start.

Hi, thanks for the reply. my site is http://www.atheistperspective.com I use wordpress 2.2. I use Network solutions as my host. They are usually great with my other sites.

It actually seems to have got a ‘little’ bit better but still not great.

well, I have a cable connection in my home office and it took about 7 seconds to load the first page of your site. Is that too long for you?

That’s with Firefox 2x on Windows XP Pro sp2 on a p4 3.8 hyperthreading laptop with 1GB ram.

In IE6, about the same, maybe 1 more second or so.

doesn’t seem that slow to me.
