    Hello,
I installed this program and was about to go live with it when I looked at my site and it seems to have conflicted with my theme. I currently have iFeature 5 installed and when I installed this plug-in it caused a portion of the background to disappear. It went back to normal the second I deactivated the plug in.
Is there a known issue here? I don’t know how to show what the issue is because the site is unusable when it’s installed.

Disable all other plugins and see if the problem still exists. If it fixes it, enable them one by one until you find the offending plugin. If not, then activate a stable theme (2011 or 2012) and see if that fixes it. If so, I it’s a theme problem. Let us know which issue it is and if you have hacked the offending theme or plug in.

I did some troubleshooting after this comment and did all that you said above. It appears to be a conflict with this theme and your plugin and what you both use as place holder for data. I’m not great with programming in WP, but I am familiar with core concepts so I’m going to try to explain it as best as I can. If you would like I can email you some screenshots.

The iFeature theme has two active widget sections: Footer and R sidebar. Even though there is no L Sidebar in the there, it’s listed there in the widgets section on the top right. The box appears inactive at first glance, but apparently is a placeholder for certain styling in the theme. Specifically the backdrop (not the background but the backdrops for each picture and post) and some of the sizing scripts. If you go to my site the “backdrops” are the white boxes behind each post and image in the sidebar and in the feature boxes at top. When I install Displet Pop, the plugin uses this same placeholder location but overwrites it with the data for displet pop. The instant the plugin is activated the theme dumps the backdrops and related formatting and it whacks out the sight.

I hope that made sense, if not a couple screenshots I can email you would make it really easy to understand. The question here is this then. Is there another widget area that displet pop can be assigned to in place of the L Sidebar?

I’m currenlty using a different pop-up plugin that I hate and would really love to use yours.

    Thanks
    Kenin

Thanks for the detailed response. We will look at it Monday and see if there is something we can do better. Bear in mind that there is zero quality control with regards to theme and plugin development, so we can’t always make our plugin play nicely with a poorly written theme or plugin, but we will do our best.

Oh I understand where you are coming from completely. The iFeature theme is pretty popular though (the newest theme version has over 500K downloads already) and I know they won’t agree that it’s a theme problem, they’ll just blame the plug in since they are the bigger guy in this situation. It’s what happens when you get so many developers in the same space trying to come up with creative solutions. Every once in a while they bump heads. It might be as simple as assigning the widget box that you are using to a different space or placeholder, but as I said before, I don’t know enough about WP to know if that’s even viable. Let me know if you want a couple of screenshots and I’ll send ’em to ya.

    Thanks

I looked through the theme and could not find any reason they should conflict – the sidebars are definitely not given the same ID that ours is given. Can you send over a screenshot? That will greatly help me understand precisely what’s happening.

Sent ya the shots. I’ll take a look at that other page when I get the chance.

I’m having a similar problem with the u-design theme at themeforest.

It’s pretty much a similar conflict.

There’s zero quality control at Themeforest, so we stopped looking into issues there about 6 months ago – it was driving us insane. Sorry we can’t help with it.

Understandable. Can you update this thread while addressing the previous persons concern so I can maybe track down the same issue?

    Hi Displetdev,

Sorry to hear you’ve had trouble with themes on ThemeForest. We certainly have more than “zero quality control”, in fact our review process is improving all the time. Unfortunately, some older themes may not meet our current standards (and we’re working on this too).

If you’ve had issue with specific themes, I’d be more than happy to assist with getting them resolved from the theme side where possible.
