Permalinks and renaming

    I’m new with word press. I’m trying to understand the permalinks. I have pages that are named website/pagename_5

    If I remove the _5 so the name ends with /pagename how will this affect how old pages in my site link to this page? Does it globally change?

    I uploaded and deleted pages several times until I got it right before going live but I realized that I didn’t fully delete the page and it was rename _2 _3 _4 _5 etc… I want to get back to the original naming in an easy manner.

    any suggestion?

    I did do that after the fact so now I have a lot of pages that trail with a underscore and a number i.e. _5. So if I go and rename all the permalinks by taking away the _5 how will this affect my new site and the internal site links to these pages? I’m hoping it won’t matter but I want to make sure.

    Once you rename a page, it updates all links in your site to that page automatically.

    Thanks. I understand it will update menu’s i.e. in the sidebars and the header but I found it doesn’t update any links I include in the body or posts and pages.
