e-mail spam

    I currently have a contact e-mail address listed on my webpage through the links section in the admin area. What’s the best way to make it so spambots can’t get ahold of this e-mail address while still having it available to regular viewers. I know of encoding the e-mail address in ascii(?) but this doesn’t seem to work when i type it into the links section.

    how would I go about putting it in though cause i’m currently listing my e-mail address through the links section of WP. So on my index, it’s just a call to get_links.

    Here’s what I use on my site: Script at DynamicDrive.com. It generates a javascript that you include in your page to display the link.
    As for doing it the way you are, using the link manager, I don’t think that’s going to be possible, or if it can, it is going to be quite difficult.

    if I were to create a contact form instead, is it still possible for spambots to still get my e-mail address?

    If you don’t want to use a form, but just an e-mail link, I use php to encode the e-mail address which seems to work just fine.

    maybe he the spammer will spam u using the contact form :p its pretty much on the same lines as comment spam… most scripts online do have checks for that… 🙂

    You could make it an image.
    I notice that many WHOIS lookups end up with email info presented as a small image.

    if showing the mail address is the requirement, image works fine. If clicking the mail id to open the mail client is the requirement, flash may come handy… though…
    if google can read flash based links, any good spam spider will do so as well…

    you can also display a .gif file with your email address on it. Don’t know how you can do that in the links section, but it is a low tech easy to do solution. Just don’t put your email address in the ALT tag.

    yea, i’m leaving it out of the links section now.
