• Hey all…I’m back to ask yet another seemingly stupid question…I’m trying to upgrade wp on my server (I use bluehost), and can’t for the life of me figure out how to properly download (then open) the files (to see if they’ve been saved properly)…I’m using filezilla…I click on the files and then download, but for some reason, I can’t open the ftpquota zip file on my computer(I use windows xp) once it’s downloaded. What am I doing wrong? I’ve backed up the database already, I just can’t seem to figure out the files part…please help! TIA…

Ok…snooping around in my bluehost cpanel….I’ve located the backup software…would I do a “full backup?” to save everything to my computer? TIA…

typically with Filezilla you would create a folder on your computer to hold your files, then select all of the files on your webserver, then right click them and select download. All of the individual files would then download to your local folder. Do you specifically want them zipped or archived instead of individually downloaded?

Also, if your webhost uses cpanel, I’d use “download home directory” which basically archives your files and downloads them for you.

BTW, if you are using a linux server the archive will not be in .zip format. It’ll probably be in tar.gz format. Windows does not know this file type by default (which could have been your other issue), so download winrar (from rarlab.com) or another unzip utility that can do linux style archives.
