Requiring beta testers

    Hey everyone. This is my first post here though I have spent many a long night scouring these threads for the answers I’ve needed for this and that.

    Anyhow, my name is Adam Merrifield, owner of a RapidWeaver theme development outfit called seyDesign. We’ve recently been porting all our work, one theme at a time, to WordPress. Of course our experience in this community is fairly limited so the features we’ve put into these themes reflect what the RapidWeaver community has driven for the past few years.

    What I am seeking here is a core group of beta testers who can help give us feedback on our features and functions and the overall usability of our current and upcoming WordPress themes.

    You know, this is the first time I have had difficulty finding beta testers. Is this community always this cold? I am used to warm and inviting forums and I thought this community of all places would have been welcoming. Maybe it’s just my timing?

    Any how, I’ll try elsewhere. Thanks for your… er… time.

    Its not that folk are cold. But every single aspect of WP and all its thousands of themes are all in beta. Folk are kind of burned out with testing. What is the benefit to them?

    Beta testing aside, I thought perhaps a “Hey, how are you.” would have been nice, but hey, different strokes for different forums. Superfluous niceties? Yes, and they are not necessary, but gee, they make for a nicer visitor experience IMO. Anyhow, I’m a big boy and can handle it, but I do appreciate you sticking your neck out and responding.

    What would beta testers get? The same thing beta testers always get; free products, future product, recognition (if desired), that worm fuzzy feeling you get by knowing that you were part of something… It’s an odd question really. I, and most people I know are stoked to get on beta lists to try out cool things and possibly shape the outcome of the final product. It’s fun, for the most part.

    Anyhow, no biggie. I’ll round up some keeners in another venue.

    There is also one more thing you should keep in mind: folks around here got used to have available hundreds (if not thousands) of free themes.
    That’s the mentality of the WP community… and they are not eager to participate in any kind of commercial project.
