Support » Fixing WordPress » I can't switch over to visual

  • I’m editing a new post which I copy and pasted the html code for from a previous post. It won’t switch over to the visual editor no matter what I try! 🙁

    What’s up?

  • Nor can I. This is the first time I’ve been into my site’s admin since the recent updates. The Visual tab shows up as a link, it shows a click, but nothing changes and I’m stuck on HTML view.

I deactivated all the plugins and it didn’t fix the problem.

I’m having this same issue and the main thing I notice that’s different is that an update has run.
Also noticed that you can’t insert media right now. So I presume this is a wordpress issue then? Hopefully it’s fixed very soon.

To some extent I’m happy to read what you’ve written … I thought it might have just been my WP not responding to link clicks for widgets, inability to find and change to HTML view in the editor etc.

I’ll hang around and keep my fingers crossed for a solution soon.

The problem isn’t evident on my site, only in the admin area, but my site is at http://desert-wave-enterprises.com

@bigdeals and @robinoz – sorry you have having difficulties and forum volunteers will do their best to help you, but you really need to start your own threads per the forum guidelines. The forums work better and you’ll get faster help too.

Also, please start working through the troubleshooting steps in this thread:

@hoodleehoo, if you’ve deactivated plug-ins and still have trouble, please then switch to the twentyeleven theme and see if the problem still persists.

Also read through the link here in case there is a known issue with your theme or plugin you are using.

I can’t because I’m using the thesis theme. I’m afraid if I switch it will mess something up. But even if switching to a new theme makes it work it still is an unacceptable solution because I can’t switch themes permanently.

Thesis will remember the settings but no need if working with 1.85 as I use that theme and it is fine.

There are other steps on the link WPyogi gave you. Pay particular attention to using your browser to detect javascript errors.

I switched over to twenty eleven and that did not solve the issue.

I did everything in the troubleshooting except manually upgrading. If I do this will I lose anything?

    Did you do as suggested:

Pay particular attention to using your browser to detect javascript errors.

First, can you post a link to your site?

Manual upgrading following the link in the trouble shooting guide will not cause any problems. Always back up the database first. Also you might check with Thesis support (they are real good) and see if they have had any issues.

I tried flushing the cache, deleting WP-supercache, and I started manually reinstalling it. I did all the files that weren’t in subfolders and that didn’t help.

Honestly, you can’t expect me to manually copy every single file in every single subfolder. That would literally take days of tedious work!!! If that’s the only solution, you guys need to find which exact file is the problem and let us know so we can just reupload the offending file.

I’m not sure what this means?

No, you do the wp-admin directory and wp-includes directory. Upload the individual files from the new wp-content folder to your existing wp-content folder, overwriting existing files. Do NOT delete your existing wp-content folder. Do NOT delete any files or folders in your existing wp-content directory (except for the one being overwritten by new files). I think there are 14 of those and that can be done all at one time by ftp.

I’m not sure what this means?

If you read and follow the trouble shooting link there are other things you should try. Try them all if necessary.

There is no offending file. By this time thousands of users have installed 3.5 without problems. Please go thru the trouble shooting guide.

It takes about 5-10 minutes using Filezilla.
