• I’ve just set up an account hosting with GoDaddy

I’m experiencing a very strange problem. I am able to log in to my website when I go through my hosting “visit your site” but when I go on to wordpress.com and try and log in that way it doesn’t even recognise my username.

I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong in setting it up. I’ve edited my site and put in a sample post but it’s like when I log in wordpress doesn’t even think I have a site unless I go via my hosting account manager.

The only thing I can assume is that maybe I’ve set up a certain type of site?

I’m a total novice so sorry if this is a simple question.

Also I’m not sure if this is relevant but when I write a new post there is no Upload/Insert media tab. instead I have a tab that says “add media” not sure if that would hint as to the type of site I’ve set up.

  • If you set up a site with a hosting account at GoDaddy, you actually have your own installation of WordPress; i.e., you are “self-hosted.” Your WordPress site will only be accessible via the “visit your site” link at GoDaddy, via your domain name, or using the IP address assigned to your domain by GoDaddy. WordPress.com is a completely different site; it’s for people who want to host a blog on WordPress.com rather than have their own installation of WordPress.

You can read about the difference here, including the pros and cons of each approach.
