HTTP Error when resizing

    Discovered some images uploaded had no thumbnails, just large originals. Now I get an HTTP Error message or HTTP 500 error after the file uploads successfully. Tried some image resizing plugins like the Regenerate Thumbnails, and they also fail. Not sure what has changed or if this is a server load issue. Happens on either large or small images. Directory not protected by .htaccess.
