Do trackbacks / pingbacks work when you post a comment to another site and use the trackback/pingback link as a reference link? For instance I use this as a URI for a recent comment:

    http://www.lifeisrisky.com/do-follow-pingback-challenge/trackback/

So logic would say if the site has No Follow turned off I should receive a trackback/pingback in the comment section of that post. Unfortunately that isn’t the case so can someone tell me why ? I am about to say something is broken on my blog but I want to make sure I am using the trackback/pingback correctly first. Thanks!

    No.

If I undersand what you are asking .. you are saying you posted a comment to another blog, and in the URL field you put your own trackback link?

All that would do is provide a link to the trackback link when ppl click on your name.

Thats not how trackbacks work. Trackbacks and pingbacks to your own blog’s posts are things that are sent from other blog admins as their choice. You cannot force one by posting a comment on another site.

That makes perfect sense. I have a test blog and have all the options checked around “Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)” set on both blogs. When I post a comment on the test blog with a reference in the comment itself to the “trackback” link on the other blog, the trackback doesn’t show up. I have tried posting from both blogs in the comment section to no avail. Now I can put the exact same link in the actual post and it shows up as a trackback/pingback just not when it is in the comments. I have the DoFollow plugin installed on both blogs as well.
    Help???

Comments don’t cause pingbacks and trackbacks. That’s not what they are for and that’s not what they do. And no, posting links in comments, no matter what the links are, will not make it magically work.

Otto thank you I feel much better now. Glad to know I my blog isn’t broken, it simply wasn’t designed to do that. I appreciate it. This is unfortunate though, because it seems like that would be a great way to reference posts and follow comments.
