I’ve been using computers since 1980 and this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever, ever seen…

I went to Feedburner and signed up one of my blogs for a feed. When I went back to the website, 172 of my personal emails were now showing up as posts on the site.

The email was to me, not from me, in my Thunderbird in box on one server, and the blog is on a completely different server. Somehow the entire folder of email got sucked into WordPress. The email subject became the title and the body became the article. I assume this is how email blog postings work.

I had to go in a delete 172 postings.

I’m not sure if this actually had anything to do with signing up for feedburner but that’s exactly when it happened.

Do you have Blog_by_Email functionality enabled?

You may have added your personal email address in the field ‘Post Via Email’

Go to ‘Options’> ‘Writing’ and scroll down to Post via e-mail.

If you see your personal email address where it says ‘Login Name’ – remove it and the associated Password.

When done, carefully re-read the instructions above those fields.

    Here is what it says:

To post to WordPress by e-mail you must set up a secret e-mail account with POP3 access. Any mail received at this address will be posted, so it’s a good idea to keep this address very secret. Here are three random strings you could use: 294b8, 10537, e1a7a.

You can also do a Google search and find a lot of info on this HERE.

Yes, thanks, that’s probably what caused it. Why, then, if it’s been up for a week or more would it all of a sudden post all my email at once?

Also, I have more than one blog and I entered the same email address on all of them and this is the only one that has done this.

I don’t know enough about how post by email works but since WP isn’t magicaly checking your email on a schedule until you setup a cron job (outside of WP) then perhaps the feeds are what triggers the email extraction. It might have happened earlier if someone had subscribed to your feed.
