I haven’t figured out why this happened, but it happened to me on a number of sites. I do know how to fix it, so I thought I would share it here in case it happens to others.

When I looked in the /wp-content/themes/twentytwelve folder, it was completely empty.

I downloaded WordPress 3.5, uploaded the contents of the /wp-content/themes/twentytwelve folder to the correct location on the server, and now I can access the Twenty Twelve theme.

  • Having this same issue with an automatic upgrade.

    Update:
I downloaded it manually from the WordPress.org site and uploaded it to the appropriate directory on my site.

Soon as I refreshed the page after the upload it said a “new version 1.1” for the theme is out and I clicked the “update now” link and now all is well.

I hope you the best good sir.

    same here

I’m the same – and I’ve tried it on a couple of sites.

Same here. Did auto-update to WP 3.5 from within dashboard. Dashboard said the theme was broken because it was missing a stylesheet. Browsed to the folder on my server and /twentytwelve/ was completely empty. Downloaded the theme, copied the files, and it worked.

Hmmm. I have the same problem, but it didn’t go away upon ftp upload of the contents of the /wp-content/themes/twentytwelve.

I’m also not seeing the options in twenty twelve to customize the header.

    Any ideas? TIA

One more clue, the only things in wp-content/themes/classic and default are footer.php.
