Trailing slash rewrite help

Hello all,
I’m sorry if this is answered somewhere already but I did search and couldn’t find exactly what I’m looking for. I have set up WP and am trying to play with it to tweak it to my liking. I am running into the problem with the trailing slash at the end of the blog address. If I go to http://mysite.com/wordpress/ it seems to find the default index.php page. If I go to http://msysite.com/wordpress it seems to redirect to my local apache install, and if I turn THAT off it tries to connect to the localhost anyways(failing obviously). I have played with some mod_rewrite rules and they seem to have little effect which leads me to think I might be doing it wrong. However, if I go to http://mysite.com it switches in the addressbar of the browser to: http://mysite.com/ (with the trailing slash). This is sort of annoying because the default blog location that is linked in the title of the blog points to the address without the trailing slash and consequently messes things up if I click there. If someone has a quick and easy way to do this I would greatly appreciate it. I am sort of a noob, but can pick it up pretty quickly if you point me in the right direction.
