• Hello,

I am new to wordpress and have already made a lot of bad mistakes. The first of these was to accidentally publish an unfinished page, so that my entire website went live prematurely. I was advised to download a plugin by Taragana which blocked access to the site with a ‘scheduled maintenance’ message on screen. This did the trick.

The only problem is that I now can’t access everything – the entire dashboard of the site. I’ve tried to log on through my ‘admin’ username, but the password keeps coming up as incorrect. I’ve tried to change the password for my blog login, in the hope that this would enable me to log on as ‘admin’, but with no luck.

There’s probably something very basic that I need to do – I’d be grateful for any advice. I just need to access the dashboard of my site so that I can continue to work on it offline.

  • There are a few things to try. First you could try this: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/cant-access-dashboard-4?replies=5 (second post in thread).

Then maybe try this again: http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

The last thing I would try is to go onto the server and delete that plugin. (and perhaps repeat the above if needed).

    Hope that helps!

    Hi,

I tried following the first instruction and resetting the password – sadly both were unsuccessful.

Happy to delete the plugin and reinstall it later, but I’m just wondering how to do this. Currently I can only access my blog dashboard and I don’t think the plugin is listed there. I remember seeing it listed on the website dashboard (which was where I installed it), but that’s precisely what I can’t access…

It’s odd because I used to be able to work on the material offline. Do you think the issue is with the password or the plugin?

Thanks so much for giving your time!

I should also add that I’ve tried entering: yourdomain.com/wp-admin/

It still comes up with the plugin maintenance message and I can’t access the dashboard.
