Help! Video’s

Can someone explain to me how I put up a YouTube video on to my site. Before I came to word press i simply cut and paste the code in the html part of my post. But for WordPress it just does not seem to work that way. When I paste the code nothing pops up after I publish my article. Am I missing something?
