imageantialias() image display problems

    OK – I’m getting the imageantialias() error message when I try to upload graphics. Situation, the site had to be reloaded with a new database. So new database and entirely new install. Now images won’t show either from the old backed up files or if I upload a new image. Can’t even get an image to show if I use a link to another site where it is showing.

    The error message:

    Warning: imageantialias(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/content/d/o/u/douggreen/html/wordpress/wp-admin/admin-functions.php on line 2160
    /home/content/d/o/u/douggreen/html/wordpress/wp-content/105woodbine_01.thumbnail.jpg

    I searched the forums- found the section with this problem.

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/80887?replies=8 indicating it was a server side problem.

    Godaddy says it is not a server side – their servers are running fine. They say it is a software issue.

    OK – I’m non-tech oriented. I consider it a triumph to upload wp and get it running. (I’ve done this on several sites now) and I’m slowly teaching myself css (painfully but slowly)

    I have absolutely no idea how to manipulate mysql databases or fix this problem if it isn’t server side.

    So if anybody here is familiar with godaddy’s mysql server interface and can walk me through this, I’d be more than appreciative.

    Warning: imageantialias(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource

    That’s basically saying that you’re trying to upload an image that it does not understand. Basically, it couldn’t parse your image.

    When you upload an image file, it creates a thumbnail automatically for you. This gets antialiased and such. But if you upload a file that has an image filename but which cannot be understood by the software as an image, you’ll probably get that message back. The message should be more clear and such, but I’d examine the image you’re trying to upload. The fact that you’re apparently trying to upload a thumbnail makes me wonder too. You don’t need to upload thumbnails. It’ll create them for you.

    Thanks for the thought about images. I’m uploading full sized images and not thumbnails. The problem is also with all the old images, every image on the site has disappeared. They’re in the files OK but can’t be seen.

    So in short, I can upload all I want using the upload command. I’m using filosofo image plugin as well and neither will give me an image that will show.

    Update – further checking in the forums here suggests that there are several options. 1) hope that things suddenly change for the better as they did for one user. 2) reduce the file size of the backup uploaded (can’t do – literally hundreds of pictures on the file) 3) become a database expert or 4) rebuild the entire thing, wipe everything old and start over again as one user did.

    Given the likelihood of 1, the impossibility of 2, the unreality of 3, I’m left with 4. So not wanting to waste any more of my or your time, I’m going for a total wipe and rebuild. I’ve copied the important posts into a text file and will upload them after the rebuild.

    It will let me refocus the blog anyway. 😉

    Intersting, I had the same error happen as well after upgrading to WP 2.2
    I will try changing the filename and see how it goes from there.
    I don’t know why this would be a problem, but anyway, I don’t like the rebuild databse part
