Problems adding Favicon to Child Theme

Hi,

I’m trying to add a favicon to my website and have followed threads on the forum, but they don’t seem to work for me:

I’ve tried changing the code cleaning the cache, restarting my browser, but no luck.

I currently have the following code on a function.php file in a Twenty Eleven child theme:

function add_theme_favicon() {

echo '<link rel="shortcut icon" href="' . get_bloginfo('stylesheet_directory') . '/favicon.ico" >';

}

add_action('wp_head', 'add_theme_favicon');

I’ve made sure to have the favicon.ico in the child directory, tried a different .ico file from the web, but that hasn’t worked either.

Would someone be able to give me a hand?
