• I’ll like to get opinions and thoughts from folks on the pretty permalinks versus the default, ugly permalinks.

I’ve seen some interesting plugins and themes that either rely upon or require that your permalinks be pretty (post name and date, for example). I’ve also seen a couple discussions, on other forums in regards to permalinks in regards to search engine optimization. The debate seems to be that some folks believe pretty permalinks are essential to a properly search engine optimized blog. On the other side are folks who say that ugly permalinks have nothing whatsoever to do with SEO.

Please chime in. Give me your expertise, advice, opinion, experience.

FYI – My blog is a few years old and I’ve used the default (ugly) permalinks the entire time.

Oops! Forgot to add that I’m also asking this since I’ll be building a wordpress site soon for a business and I need to decide from the start whether the blog permalinks should be default or pretty.

    Thanks.

Google and other search engines seem to be quite happy to index sites with the default permalinks.

“Pretty” permalinks are more of a human-friendly thing than a SEO-friendly thing.

And the best thing you can do to get good search engine placings is to have good content. Keywords featured in the actual text of posts, that kind of thing…

When keywords are called out in a post, does it matter if they are highlighted/underlined with regards to SEO-friendly issues. It would seem like it does not matter but today it is an assumption.

Also, having trouble highlighting/underlining to appear in final post on browser. Don’t know what I am doing wrong. Any thoughts on the value of underlining the keywords. Things look nice and clean as is and it seems one would read through the whole post rather than linking hilly nilly every paragraph.
