Can I make a category invisible?

How can I make a category invisible when listed under my categories list? In my blogroll I have my friends listed under a category called Top Friends. However, this Top Friends category is also showing up under my normal categories list, which is useless because there are no posts contained under it. It just reads as Top Friends (0) which is useless. How can I get rid of certain categories appearing under this list?
