yep, just put up the old external.php file now and will wait for an update.

seeing as this link type is external/affiliate product it should probably open up in a new tab by default rather than having to edit this file to include “_blank”

Just tested and appears to be working on default themes:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s%2Fvepumijiu3p1csw%2FMonosnap%25202018-06-05%252015-14-17.png

Form contains URL and ID, so submitting the form will append those and redirect to the page as it should.

Forms can also include target blank FWIW https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_form_target.asp

@mikejolley Yes it redirect correctly but since the new button for external product after patch 3.4 there are following problems:
1.Button is dofollow, before it was nofollow = bad for seo
    2. Customer do not know where the link goes when he hover over the button in chrome and firefox
3.Can´t track the new button in google analytics and google tag manager
    4. On some affiliate programs you can´t get commission anymore cause the referall isn´t sending
    5. It´s against the ToS of some Affiliate programs, when the affiliate link don´t show up in the left corner = could irritate customer.
    6. Link do not show up in a new tab since 3.4 – Many people don´t have the know how to change the template to give the button a blank target

Woocommerce was perfect for Affiliate Stores before 3.4. Are you changing the external button back in the future, like it was before? Because i do not see any positive aspect in the new external button. Some Affiliate Marketing Business Friends, who are using woocommerce too having the same problem since the 3.4 update and everyone made a rollback.

good points… i wonder what the reason for the change was and if the devs agree it may not be an ideal update for many of us?!

referer and other params aren’t being removed for me in the form.

Someone opened an issue anyhow; https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/20402 Add feedback there. If it really is against TOS and this can be proven, we’ll consider reverting to a plain link. It just makes it harder for themes to style consistently because this is the only product type which had no ‘form’.

Still waiting for examples of this; what service states this in the TOS? Want to make sure you’re not being dramatic before changing anything 🙂

The nofollow issue is easily solvable even with a form.

@mikejolley – For example amazon , they want to know from which site the affiliates are sending their Traffic. Thats why they do not allow using link shortener. I do not know if the referrer is sending in the new button, because im not a developer. But i found out i can´t track the button via Google Tag Manager + Analytics anymore at the product page.

@irongenetics96 This isn’t a link shortener, it’s a form. Form will still post the referrer to Amazon so it’s trackable like a link.

    It’s a form https://www.clickinsight.ca/blog/tracking-form-submissions-gtm

my aff ToS don’t say anything that may be affexted by this, but for me i will be keeping the older file as i like the user to be able to see where they are clicking

It appears this is going to stay as is for now, unless it can be shown that what is being done is against the TOS of affiliate programs. The work around is to use the older template in your theme or child theme.

If there’s anything else, please let us know.
