Child theme not working in Explorer

Hi, I am a WordPress absolute beginner and love your elegantWhite theme. Thank you very much for making it available. I have used the codex here to create a child theme for it http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes and now this Child Theme is recognized by all major browsers except for Internet Explorer 7, 8 and 9. Explorer 9 recognizes parts of the style-sheet (image based menu and background images) while others (header colors) are overridden. I don’t understand where this problem is coming from.
