• I’m wondering if there is a plugin that currently exists for WordPress that supports image thumb-nailing, search and tagging?

I use a Free Software application called F-Spot on GNU/Linux almost every day, I have a decently sized photo collection, and have about 200 or so tags set up. I provide a tag for EVERY person in a picture, where it was taken, events those are associated with…

Anyway, tagging is VITAL to how I manage my images, but a search of Google, wp-plugins and the other sites listed on the Plugins section didn’t turn up anything that jumped out at me as what i need, do any of you guys have suggestions?

If such a beast does not exist, is there interest in publication of this plugin, when and if I have to write it?

  • That does sound pretty interesting though I haven’t heard of any programs or plug-ins for WP that do that. There are some good programs for Mac and Win for tagging that you might be able to get to work with WP.

I do not really know what these “tags” are, but keywords is part of the “IPTC headers” and “IPTC Core” professional photo metadata standards. These are supported by Fotoware, Iview Media Pro, ACDSee and others. And Adobe. The Adobe consumer applications use “tags”, though. I guess that these “tags” are stored as keywords, but I’m not sure. Maybe it’s a new fancy name, or maybe it’s different.

Take a look at the Gallery2 image gallery and the WPG2 plugin. Lots of metadata visible there… EXIF and all…
