Before upgrading to WordPress 2.1, the main page of my blog only showed the most recent 10 posts. Now after upgrading, despite not changing anything, it’s showing ALL 800 plus entries I have in my site, not the most recent 10. Any way to fix this?

  • Did you go into the Options > Reading Panel and change it back to 10? Is it still showing all your posts?

Yes I did, it shows every single post no matter what I do. It’s not the theme’s fault because I tried it out with the default theme as well and it’s not changing anything at all.

Okay seriously, this is ridiculous. I don’t get how every time I have a WordPress issue, no one can ever help me. And why is there no direct contact for someone at WordPress specifically? Obviously this place doesn’t help for the majority of questions I’ve asked.

My entire site is ruined now and I can’t roll back to 2.0.7. Lovely.

I have the exact same problem! Not only is it showing ALL the posts on the main page, but once it gets down to the last few posts the layout gets all screwy.

I have no idea how to fix this.

    Someone please help?

The layout gets screwy because it’s trying to load a million entries and the website eventually times out.

I tried every theme I have installed, installed new themes, overwrote the default themes, etc. Nothing changes. I tried to use this plugin to force a set number of entires and it didn’t work.

I got annoyed and tried to change my front page from posts to a static page and it didn’t change anything at all.

    This is immensely annoying.

I know this issue has been discussed in the past couple of days. Not sure if they got a solution on it, but it was discussed in about 5 or 6 posts. Maybe do a quick search for it and you might find a solution, as I don’t know what it is off the top of my head.

I can’t do a quick search for it because the WordPress search isn’t working for me either. If you have links to other threads I’d be happy to look at it.

Plugins? Disable your plugins one by one to find which one might interfere with the Loop/posts.

    I did. Didn’t help.

Is this the site linked to your profile? I see only one entry.

I spoke too soon. Disabling WP Paginate fixed it for me. Now, ofcourse, as that was an integral part of my site, my archives are broken. It doesn’t look like this has been updated since 2007. Is there anything similar that can fill the same role?

If you use lesterchan’s (Gamerz) Navi – it is supposed to be updated:

If it doesn’t work, let the author know!

Okay seriously, this is ridiculous. I don’t get how every time I have a WordPress issue, no one can ever help me. And why is there no direct contact for someone at WordPress specifically? Obviously this place doesn’t help for the majority of questions I’ve asked.

    Few things:

-2.1 is new and different, so expecting everybody to know all the possible answers is a bit premature. Nobody knew the answer to your problem because it’s not something we’ve seen before. You have to figure out answers before you can give them.

-Nobody helped you here because you didn’t provide anywhere near enough information to receive any real help. You have to be way specific. Explain what you tried. Explain your Loop. Say what theme you’re using. Say where to get it. Basically, somebody has to reproduce the problem in order to solve it, otherwise you just get guesses. Moshu got lucky by guessing plugins (no offense moshu! 😀 ).

-Complaining about lack of assistance on a volunteer forum only 3 HOURS after posting your problem… It’s a bit soon.

-Wordpress is open source software. There is nobody at “WordPress specifically” because the software is developed by a lot of people for free. It’s like asking “why is there nobody at Linux who can help me?” There is no specific entity named Linux. It’s free for all.

-You get what you pay for. If you really want help and it really matters to you, then go pay somebody to help you. Because this place is all volunteers, so complaining that it’s useless to you certainly doesn’t incline anybody to help you in the future.

That one works fine, but I went with this in the end.

Otto: My frustration isn’t based on this one issue. It’s been based on trying to get help with many things that are still unresolved; though thankfully my search bug seems to be fixed in 2.1 finally, so that’s an improvement. I was specific; the issue happened no matter which theme or which code I used. I thought I had disabled the plugin in particular but I hadn’t. I concede that this was my fault, but my frustration was going again on another issue that I asked help for and everyone just scratched their heads at.

Nevertheless I appreciate moshu’s suggestion, otherwise I wouldn’t have checked plugins again to be sure that it was turned off.
