    Hi all,

New to servers and databases so please bear with me. I’m currently testing a new theme on my site with the old one running. The old site is a basic flat html site with a directory of http://www.mydomain/blog which has one installation of wordpress. I have created a different database with another wordpress installation for the new theme. I would like to keep my old blog and put every new post into the new theme. Problem is when I’m good to run and I decide to put my http://www.mydomain/staging to http://www.mydomain there will be 2 instances of http://www.mydomain/blog. My question is will there be conflicts between the two when I move my staging site to go live or does the different databases allow both to live together simultaneously?

    Thanks in advanced

  • Mmmmm that won’t work. A WordPress site only has one database.

    You have 2 options.

    1. Test your new theme with some dummy data in your staging area.
When ready, just move that theme to your old blog.

    2. Export your data to your staging area.
Test your new theme and when ready to go live, move everything to the new url.

I think that option one is way easier.

Thanks for the quick reply Christine, I’m already testing the new theme in the staging site and will be ready soon. I actually do not mind having 2 wordpress sites on different databases which is what I have now. (1 in a blog folder and the other new theme in the root) I think I have answered my own question as the 2 will still be sitting in different directories but only the naming will be the same so it should work.

    Cheers!
