make collapsed menu default

i am woking on a page for a friend using Blackwell Pro. In full disclosure, I can usually get stuff in but only have a vague idea of what I am doing…my friend is distressed that the copy cuts off on some smaller screens when it is opened. This is to compensate for the menu…

A couple of questions…what would seem the best workaround to you and how would you implement it? I would suppose we could widen the screen default…or set the page to open with the menu collapsed. What would you suggest?
