List posts depending on post variable?

Hi!

I’d like to make one page on my site which would list all posts – except those who have a certain variable specified! (in this case, if they have any value at all assigned to the variable “external”).

Is this possible? I’ve looked through the codex and previous answers, but I haven’t found anything exactly what I’m looking for.

Any help would be much much appreciated!
