I have the exact same issue that riggers is describing with IE, FF, Chrome and Safari. It seems to happen most often with the sidebar gallery on the homepage:

In chrome it seems like after the homepage loads, when I click on one of the sidebar images, it opens in a new blank screen and I have to hit the back button to return to my page, but after that first click, when I click on another image in the sidebar gallery (without reloading or clearing the cache) lightbox opens up perfectly.

In FireFox lightbox never opens on the homepage sidebar gallery, each image is displayed in the new browser screen, and to return to the website you have to hit the back button. Lightbox also seems hit and miss on the main gallery page too.

In IE lightbox never opens on the homepage sidebar images, it just goes to the new screen, and you have to hit the back button to return to the website.

With a fresh page load, after clearing the cache, Lightbox works on the main gallery page
But if you navigate to a different page, like to the portfolio page, then back to the main gallery page, lightbox stops working and the images open in that new screen again.
