• I’m using the import function with the update box checked to try and update the exif on an album with 135 pics. The problem is it only manages to update about 20 pics at a time and then instructs me to restart the operation. Each time I restart but if I check all photos it will only ever update those at the top of the list. Is there no way to update them all in one function or at least for WPPA to know which ones have been updated so it can clear the check boxes on those ready for the user to restart the operation?

If you check the delete after successful import checkbox, they will vanish so the next time it goes on with the rest. Why would you leave them in the depot?

Oh I see. I had not appreciated the depot is just a temporary area for the duration of the import. So for all those pictures (and sub folders) I’ve imported already should I just delete them via my FTP access?

Also, I cannot find a ‘Delete after successful import checkbox’. Where is this?

Sorry for the extra questions but I wonder if you can recommend the best workflow for importing? My set up is as follows:

I edit photos in Lightroom (RAW) and then publish them from Lightroom to a folder on my hard drive which matches the name of the album I’ve created in WPPA. E.g. I have an album called landscapes and I publish to a folder called landscapes. I then use SmartFTP to upload these to the depot folder (keeping the folder structure within the depot folder).

Then I use the import function and set the source directory to be the sub folder I uploaded for the album e..g. …depot\landscapes. Then I set the default album to e.g. landscapes and then I click import (or update).

Please can you let me know if there is a better way to do this.

Yes, since a few sub-revs we have the import directory functionality.
FTP the folder to your depot.
Leave the import source dir to be your depot.
Remove all single items from your depot, leaving folders only.
Check Table IX-A18: Auto comtine and make sure Table IX-A19 is less than or equal to yhe max execution time of php. If you do not know set it to 30
Go to the import page, press the Import button and lay back until finished.

The albums with name is foldername and subalbums if any are auto created if they do not already exist.
Especially developed for a site that has now over 100.000 pictures.

    Ok thanks.

The albums with name is foldername and subalbums if any are auto created if they do not already exist

Just so I understand you correctly are you saying the folder name in the depot must exactly match the name of the album? If so is this case sensitive and are spaces allowed?

I’m not sure what you mean about sub albums. I do have some top level albums with photos in them (People, Landscapes etc) and then I have 2 parent albums called ‘Other Albums’ and ‘Family Albums’ which have some sub albums within them e.g. ‘\Family Albums\My Birthday’. I’m not sure what you are saying about the folder structure for these.

And finally… just to repeat my question above:

Also, I cannot find a ‘Delete after successful import checkbox’. Where is this?

I’m still struggling to follow this so hope you can help answer my questions above. I did upload a new folder full of photos to my depot then set the source to my depot and clicked import but it returned the message “No files to import.”

    You should see:

There are 1 albumdirectories in the depot.

If not, there are possibly other files in your depot. In that case you do not see this, because it would be confusing what will happen when you click the Import button.

    Thread Starter riggers

    (@riggers)

In my depot there are no files just lots of folders, which i’ve used to populate albums using my other method mentioned above.

    Your earlier questions:

If you ftp a folder with photos that contains sub-folders, there will be sub-albums created accordingly.

The ‘Delete after successful import checkbox’ is in the banner above the checkboxes of the table with all the photo files to import.

Mind this: if there are very many, the import will not do it because there may be no more than max_input_vars items ( checkbnoxes ) Usually this is 1000. This is one of the reasons i made the folder import, the folder may contain more the max_input_vars photos.

What version wppa+ do you run?

    (@opajaap)

BTW: It works only as ../wp-content/wppa-depot/<loginname>/thefolderiwanttoimport

You should see something like ths:

Import photos from: --- My depot --- [ Set source directory ]

There are 1 albumdirectories in the depot.
      [v] Check/uncheck all
[v] fotocursus klein Contains 27 files

    [ Import ]

    Thread Starter riggers

    (@riggers)

Thats not what I’m seeing but I’m using a different path for the depot (../wp-content/uploads/gallery/uploads) and also I’m still on version 5.0.10 so I’ll change the path and upgrade and see what happens.

Also i’ve still never seen a delete after successful import check box. All I see on the import page are check boxes for “Check/Uncheck all”, “Update existing photos” and “Do not create duplicates”.

Just one furtehr question from above I’m still waiting for an answer on… Should I delete all the folders in my depot for albums I’ve already successfully imported? I’m assuming the depot is a temporary area and WPPA has created it’s own copy following the import?

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

Well, i’ll sketch you the ‘ideal’ workflow for large scale import/maintenance.

    1. Leave the depot at …/wp-content/wppa-depot/admin/ ( if you are admin ). The directory->album import only works in this situation.
    2. on your pc make the folders with name=albumname. Sub-folders will become sub-albums.
    3. FTP the folders to your depot.
    4. Optional: If you want to keep the original files on the system to be able to remake the downsized images and thumbnails and eventually with a different watermark etc, and/or to use the originals for the Art Monkey link ( Table VI-C1 ).
If any of this applies: Check Table IX-H1a,1b and 3.
Please leave IX-H2 as it is.
    5. Optional: If you give import rights to non-admin users and you want them to restrict to this method only or simple single imports: Check Table IX-H7.
    6. Optional: You can create a wp page for every album if you check Table IX-H8, and specify in IX-H8.x.

If you did some import after these settings are active, look ( FTP ) into …/wp-content/uploads/wppa-source/
You will find sub-folders with name like album-13
You are allowed ( you will not jeopardize wppa+ system integrety ) to manually add/delete/modify the album-xxx folders, so i suggest you move the folders from your current place where you keep them to here. Make sure to change the names of the folders to album-xx.

Now, if you did not change photo names in the past, or imported them after the ‘save the original filename’ feature was introduced ( do not remember when ) go to the album admin page, and you will see right after the Filename: xxxx.jpg, the text ‘Sourcefile available’. If so, then it is there in the right place ( and the name is ok etc. ).
You can remake the files, etc.

If you add photos in the album-xx folders, they will be imported when you do a Remake if you checked the Remake add box ( Table IX-H4a ).
