Domain URL issues

Let say http://www.example.com is my domain name…

Now if I type in on any browser, It would not display anything unless I have to add home next to forward slash such as http://www.example.com/home.

Is there a way I could get that home page URL to be http://www.example.com instead of http://www.example.com/home ?

Is there a way I could change permalink?
