• What exactly is WAMP used for? How does it differ from FTP?

I have been using Filezilla to upload WP theme lately without a problem. Until I came up with multiple suggestions to use WAMP instead of FTP which gives better control. I have been googling up for some infos, but couldn’t find anything that can give me better explaination.

    So what is WAMP?

  • Wamp is a server installed on your computer to testing for more advanced users of wordpress or for some learn how to use wordpress with out having a host account until they ready.

Ftp is File transfer protocol that we use for transferring files.

In your case you can install theme on wamp to test it out that it does not break your live site once you know all is ok then you upload same theme on live site.
