    when the activity stream shows a reply to a comment, it lists the comment under the reply, but the comment doesn’t fit properly into the section.

    The sidebar of your buddypress website must use the standard wordpress widget markup. Such us:

    <ul class="widget">

<li>Widget 1</li>
<li>Widget 2</li>
</ul>
