As site administrator I use Wordfence free on my WP website, including the 2FA option. The2FA code is generated by Google Authenticator on my Iphone. Since my Iphone had to be replaced I deactivated -just to be sure- 2FA by using the Deactivate button in the Wordfence section. This was succesful. Later on I had to log in as wp-admin on my website and to my surprise this was not possible. After giving my user id and password I got the following message:

LOGIN BLOCKED: 2FA is required to be active on your account. Please contact the site administrator.

If 2FA were required I would expect a new block where I could insert the 2FA code (Google authenticator still working for my website by the way). Since 2FA has been deactivated user id and password would do to get acces. Neither applies. I am lost. Can someone help me in regaining acces to my site please?.

    Hi @pietjebel2606,

Thanks for reaching out! In Wordfence > Login Security > Settings, your role was set to Required. If the grace period wasn’t reset on your account, you would no longer be able to log in once 2FA was deactivated.

If you have added your site to Wordfence Central, you can add your public-facing IP address to the Allowlisted IP addresses that bypass 2FA under the Login Security options. This would allow you to bypass 2FA and log in.

You can also have another admin user reset the grace period on your account for you.

If none of the above options work, you will need to use FTP/SFTP — or any file manager your web host provides via their administration panel to disable Wordfence manually. Please let me know if you need any further information on how to deactivate Wordfence manually.

    Thanks,
    Margaret
