Meta Description

    Hey everyone,

    I’m running 3.0 with the iNove theme and have tried multiple SEO plugins through WordPress. Right now I have the “FV All in One SEO Pack”.

    What I’m mainly looking to do is have the right description of my website when appearing on Google. Through many attempts, and making sure Google crawled it sometime after, the Google description keeps showing a couple sentences from whatever the most current post is.

    With this SEO pack I plugged in a Home title, Home description, and Home keywords.

    What should I really be doing?

    That is true google takes your title and first few lines from your page or post Meta description is not used any more.

    Are you sure? I see a lot of people’s personal websites show a description of their site/blog…not the beginning of the most recent post.

    Google still uses my meta decriptions. They may or may not use it. It’s not guaranteed.

    We use a number of different sources for this information, including descriptive information in the META tag for each page. Where this information isn’t available, we may use publicly available information from DMOZ. While accurate meta descriptions can improve clickthrough, they won’t impact your ranking within search results. We frequently prefer to display meta descriptions of pages (when available) because it gives users a clear idea of the URL’s content.

    Now my question is, how to I correctly add my meta description through wordpress?

    Hi Byran,

    All you can do in WordPress is make sure that your own description is showing up in source. What Google takes is up to Google (and the source of long controversial discussions among SEOs). For mass editing of your descriptions give our FV Descriptions a whirl it’s a big help.
