Clear WP permalink??

    Does anyone know how to clear a WordPress permalink?

    I made a page with a permalink of “domain.com/news” I deleted it and now want a category with the news slug, again “domain.com/news” but wordpress keeps reassigning the category slug to be “domain.com/news-2”.

    How do I “clear” that news permalink and tell wordpress that I want to use it for a category instead?
