• New to WP. Install was fine. Made two post w/o problem. Come back next day WP does not recognize my username. I registered again and got in to the Admin panel to find the only item in my dashboard is my profile.

I have renamed the few plugins I had. Didn’t help. I had to register again just to make this post. So I have two problems: WP keeps losing my username and dashboard items missing. This is a great start!
    Thanks,

    Branch

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I’m a bit confused by that to be honest. It sounds like you’re registering on your own blog (which explains why you can only see your profile – ie you’re not logging in as an admin so don’t have permission to see anything else. But then you say had to register again to make this post?

Anyway. You might want to try retrieving your admin password:

Ok, just deleted all plugins. Not sure how to change themes since the only panels the dashboard shows are: Profiles and Tools and tools are dead.
The theme installed is arjuna-x. Are there known problems with this theme?

I kept a copy of the email WP sent when I first registered, so I know I was typing in the correct username and password when it was rejected.

Where do I go from here?

Also is their a list of themes that the header can easily be changed?
    Thanks for answering.

Did you check the page that alism listed? You really need to reset your password in the database.

Do you mean go to the admin page and change my password? I just did that. Dashboard still the same.
At this point I think I should completely wipe the server clean of WP and start over. That’s not a big deal, but I do not want this to happen again. I Googled missing dashboard and found lots of people with the same problem and no solutions that worked.
Will I have to recreate the database on the server also?
    Thanks for your help.

Under the circumstances, I think it would be best if you installed using a fresh database.

    Ok, thanks.
Is there a list of plugins to stay away from?

Should I create another account with WP to make sure I have no connection with the problems I have had?

    Appreciate your help.

Try to avoid plugins that aren’t listed as being tested/compatible with anything about WP 2.7.

Should I create another account with WP to make sure I have no connection with the problems I have had?

Not sure that you mean by “account”…

I mean sign up for WP again and register with another username.

You don’t need to sign up to anything to download WordPress.
