You mentioned Jetpack but the sitemaps I found on your website were made with Yoast…
http://kitabikarwan.com/index.php/post-sitemap.xml
If you really want to use the Jetpack sitemaps then you’ll probably want to disable the Yoast sitemaps… I’d probably continue with Yoast sitemaps though and disable the Jetpack sitemaps. Having both plugins generating XML sitemaps might cause conflicts.
But before I did that I’d fix my permalink issues where you have ‘index.php’ in your permalinks… else you’ll have links that might become broken or ‘annoying to hand type’ into forms and such.
Once you’ve done that you can regenerate the sitemaps and tell the Search Engines about them if you want. If your sitemaps are working properly, the search engines will find and use them.
Hi!
Thank you for helping. I tried submitting the Yoast Sitemap as well, but even that shows the status as “couldn’t fetch”
Your sitemap is at http://kitabikarwan.com/sitemap_index.xml. Is that what you submitted to google?
Your robots.txt file says
Sitemap: http://kitabikarwan.com/index.php/sitemap.xml
Sitemap: http://kitabikarwan.com/index.php/news-sitemap.xml
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
So apparently you have another plugin also providing a sitemap. YOu need to decide which plugin to use and disable the sitemap feature of the other.
Okay, I just submitted this to Google, and it says “Success”. Now, which plugin should I stop using, and I’m hoping it won’t negatively affect my website?
which sitemap did you submit?
since you submitted http://kitabikarwan.com/sitemap_index.xml, you can use the plugin which created it – Yoast
Disable the site maps provided by Jetpack and any other plugins.
I did that, my website is still not appearing on Google 🙁
It’s not an instant thing. As a small website, you are not that important to Google. It can take a couple of weeks, at least, after submitting a site map before you show up in search results.
