• Hello everyone, new here.

I run a Shopify store and they have a blog system but I am curious if WordPress is compatible with Shopify with any features or integrations.

The blog system on Shopify is fine, but feel that WordPress and a separately hosted blog might be better than the current set up.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • If you’re using your domain myshop.com for your Shopify store, you cannot use it for WordPress (or for any other software or service).

Your WordPress blog will have to live at a separate sub-domain, eg blog.myshop.com and hosted with a 3rd-party hosting company, as Shopify does not host 3rd-party software.

Once this is done, the two (Shopify store and WordPress blog) will be totally independent, and there should be no point of conflict.

That said, it may be possible to build some form of integration between the two (eg display related Shopify products in your WordPress sidebar or under each blog post)… but that’s something you’ll need to work on…. work out what “integration” you want and seek out the available solutions (WordPress and/or Shopify plugins).

Thanks for your input. I have been looking into this and will ask our technician for more assistance once he comes back. Alternatively, Medium and other 3rd party platforms looked OK. And, as you said, if we hosted the WordPress ourselves then we have more control over the plugins and thus, better advertising solutions for our store…

If you go with the WordPress blog you can pipe the Shopify store’s RSS feed into your blog as posts using a plugin like FeedWordPress…

I know the plugin hasn’t been updated in a while but I’m still using it and it seems to behave just fine. The author still seems active last time I looked. The base plugin had a few enhancements then he seemed to concentrate on the add-ons after that.

There are other plugins for this process also including Press Forward which is really cool but again somewhat dated… https://wordpress.org/plugins/pressforward/

    Alternatively, Medium…

Note that Medium does not support custom domains/subdomains anymore, so your Medium publication will live at www.medium.com/your-publication-name.

That, and for the fact that Medium doesn’t really integrate with anything out there (other than apps for publishing on Medium), I’d really think twice about a Medium blog, especially for an e-commerce website.
