At seemingly random intervals, all comments on my blog are closing. I have just upgraded to 2.8.2, but have usually used the latest version. The problem seemed to arise after 2.5 or so. I have not checked the “Automatically close comments on articles” option.
Plugins active: Akismet; FeedBurner FeedSmith; and WordPress Database Backup.
It also resets the settings>discussion to different options without action by me, including checking the previously unchecked “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” and “An administrator must always approve the comment”
Temporary solution to fix it is to run a query in mySQL to open up all comments and then uncheck the “must be registered” and “approve the comment” option in the WP dashboard.
But I’m getting really frustrated by having to monitor this and fix it manually every so often. Any one knows what causes this? Could it be Akismet?
