When pasting text into the Gutenberg editor, I find that spaces are removed between words. This can be quite an issue if the text being pasted in is long as it requires proof-reading the text again.

I have experienced this when pasting from both the Gutenberg editor itself and Microsoft Word.

The issue is present on both WordPress.com and the WordPress.org plugin.

    Chrome 70 on Windows 10.

Hi @waterworthr, thanks for reporting. This is a known issue: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/11012

Should hopefully be fixed soon πŸ™‚

Yes, this is a known issue, as mel pointed out above.

Copying things from Microsoft Word and others comes along with the document formatting as well. It is one of the goals of the new editor to try to preserve this formatting, by converting it from Microsoft’s bizarre formats into something more standard for the web. Obviously there is room for improvement.

In the meantime, if you don’t need the formatting, copying into a text editor like notepad, and then copying and pasting from there will generally get you the text in a plain form, without formatting. You can also try to use the SHIFT-CTRL-V key when pasting. In most Windows apps, shift-Pasting like this only pastes the plaintext in, not the extended formatting stuff.

On the plus side, copying and pasting from Google Docs seems to work nearly perfectly.

Not even close for that statement to be anywhere remotely true… unless my definition of “work nearly perfectly”, is completely different.

Like I said, nearly. It got quite a lot of the formatting, but not all of it. But it has the images, the colors, and all of the text.

This was fixed in https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/12166 and that fix should be included in WordPress 5.0.2 which should be released very soon.

Thanks guys, it’s a big relief for my clients that this will be fixed… well, today !!!

Looping back to note that 5.0.2 was released yesterday. πŸŽ‰

Please test pasting again after updating and reply back here if you’re still having trouble.

Actually, yes, the same issue persists. Unlike what was said above, nothing has changed from the video above…

There is missing text (page 1), there are missing colors, and the formatting is wrong, everything is indented to the left. The funniest thing is that one of the images got copied 3 times… Please look at the video, it’s only 55 seconds long.

I appreciate checking back on this, and hopefully notifying the right people’s attention to get it fixed.
