• This used to be a useful Free plugin, if you overlook the CONSTANT updates (people like occasional fixes and new features but there is a limit to how often users should have to update their plugins.) Now it requires that you give it far too much access to your Google Analytics account. Their response is that you can continue using the plugin with the Manual ID entry, but the majority of users are not going to understand this and simply grant Monster Insights a very dangerous amount of permissions to their GA accounts. There needs to be a separation. The Free version should not require maximum permissions. This should be reserved for paid customers. Until there is separation, I will be removing this plugin from some 80+ sites I use it on and the 1 Star rating shall stand. You are sending your plugin down in flames. Good luck to you!

    Hi there,
In regards to permissions, we just revamped which ones we ask for by dropping permissions related to features we were planning on launching to the lite users for GTM compatibility, part of the future coming ads report, and our url builder feature among others. You will note the change in permissions if you perform a reauth or new auth.

As for updates, MonsterInsights over the last calendar year has issued far less updates than other plugins that are actively maintained in the top 20 plugins, averaging 1 every 3 weeks, oftentimes more busy, which is standard for plugins, around major releases. WooCommerce, for example, one of many plugins MonsterInsights has to actively develop code to stay compatible with as part of eCommerce tracking has issued nearly 3x the number of updates. Even among analytics software, the top 3 have issued the same or more updates than we have. We’re constantly expanding our reporting, introducing new tracking features, and ensuring your site stays up to date with the latest Google Analytics features and guidance.

However, unlike these other plugins we also offer the ability for users who do not like having to update to opt in to having only minor updates, or all updates, automatically installed, using the same feature WordPress core does with automatic rollback support, as a 1 click option in our settings panel.
