## Description
**Zaaed Click2Chat** tracks and analyzes how visitors interact with your WhatsApp
links — locally, on your own WordPress site. It combines an accurate analytics dashboard
with a complete lead pipeline and conversion tracking system, so every WhatsApp
click becomes a measurable sales signal.

#### Tracking
* **Visitor tracking** — device, browser, OS and landing page for every visitor.

The plugin itself only loads Google Tag Manager, and only when you enable it.

Bundled library: [Chart.js](https://www.chartjs.org) v4.5.1 (MIT) for dashboard
charts, loaded locally. The plugin does not load any other remote scripts, styles
or fonts of its own.
### External services
This plugin stores analytics data in your own WordPress database. It does not contact
any third-party service unless you configure an integration described below and,
when the consent banner is enabled, the visitor has accepted. When the optional
Google Tag Manager integration is enabled, the plugin loads the GTM container from
Google and sends WhatsApp click events to it. For the other providers, the plugin
only forwards events to tags that are already present on your site; it does not
load those scripts itself.
An optional “Auto-detect integrations” tool, available only to administrators on
the settings screen, requests your own site’s front page to look for existing tag
IDs. That request goes to your own domain, not to a third-party service, and no
visitor data is included.
#### Google Tag Manager (with optional Google Analytics 4 / Google Ads forwarding)
Purpose: load a Google Tag Manager container and send WhatsApp click events to Google
Analytics 4 or Google Ads tags that are already configured in that container or
on the page.
Data sent: the GTM container ID in the request URL, the page URL,
the clicked WhatsApp link URL and text, and the WhatsApp phone number when one can
be extracted. Google also receives standard request data such as IP address, browser,
device and referrer. When: the GTM container is loaded on front-end pages after
you enable the integration (and after consent when the banner is enabled). Click

#### WhatsApp
Purpose: WhatsApp links on your site take visitors to WhatsApp so they can start
a conversation.
Data sent: WhatsApp receives the visitor’s request, the phone number
in the link and any message the visitor chooses to send. When: only when a visitor
clicks a WhatsApp link. The plugin does not send data to WhatsApp by itself. Service

#### Optional event forwarding to tags you already run
If you enter a provider ID in the settings and the provider’s tag is already present
on the page, the plugin pushes a “whatsapp_click” event to that provider when a
visitor clicks a WhatsApp link. The data sent is the same event data described above(
the clicked link URL and text and, when available, the WhatsApp phone number). The
plugin does not load these scripts and sends nothing when the corresponding tag
is absent. Each provider’s own terms and privacy policy apply.

## Installation
1. Upload the `zaaed-click2chat` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`.
2. Activate the plugin through the “Plugins” menu.
3. A **Zaaed Click2Chat** item appears in the admin sidebar — tracking starts immediately.
Upgrading from the legacy “Zaaed WhatsApp Analytics” (pre-1.7.0) build? Deactivate
the old build first, then activate this one — all visitors, sessions, clicks, leads
and settings carry over automatically; no migration step.
## FAQ
### Why is my clicks counter empty when I test as an administrator?
Administrators are ignored by default (“Ignore Admin Users”) to keep analytics clean.
Test logged-out in an incognito window, or disable the toggle under Settings General.
### My button is an internal link like /go/wa-contact. Is it tracked?
Yes. Internal same-origin links are probed automatically on page load and any that
redirect to WhatsApp are tracked without configuration.
### Do I need to fill in “WhatsApp Link Patterns”?
No — it is an optional fallback for special cases (e.g. redirects that block probes).
Add one pattern per line if needed.
### Which link formats are supported?
wa.me, `api.whatsapp.com`, `web.whatsapp.com`, `chat.whatsapp.com` and `whatsapp://`.
### How is the phone number captured?
From `?phone=` / the `wa.me/` path in the resolved URL, or from `data-*`
attributes. It is stored AES-256-GCM encrypted in the events table.
### Are phone numbers stored in plain text?
No. Since v1.6.0 lead and event phone numbers are encrypted at rest by default.
### Does the plugin send my data anywhere?
No, not by default. All analytics data is stored in your own database. Data leaves
your site only if you enable the optional Google Tag Manager integration, or if
you configure a provider ID for a tag that is already running on your site. See
_External services_ for details.
