WP SmartCrop

WP SmartCrop will crop your images on-the-fly to match your CSS, keeping the main focal point in view.

You can use the built in installer and upgrader, or you can install the plugin manually.

From your WordPress dashboard

  1. Visit 'Plugins > Add New'
  2. Search for 'WP SmartCrop'
  3. Activate WP SmartCrop from your Plugins page.

From WordPress.org

  1. Download WP SmartCrop.
  2. Upload the 'wp-smartcrop' directory to your '/wp-content/plugins/' directory, using your favorite method (ftp, sftp, scp, etc...)
  3. Activate WP SmartCrop from your Plugins page.

Once Activated

  1. Upload images to your Media Library
  2. Select an image in the library, so that image details appear on the right
  3. Check the Enable Smart Cropping checkbox.
  4. Find the preview thumbnail of the image (at the top of the sidebar from the 'insert media' screen, or to the left on the media library details screen)
  5. Click the focal point of the image. This should be the central subject, and the area of the image that we want in view at all times. For a portrait, I recommend clicking an eye, or other powerful feature. You can change the focus at any time, simply by clicking on a new part of the image.
  6. Insert the image into a page or post
  7. Style your image, using the img.wpsmartcrop-image selector
