AnswerKite adds a chat button to your website. Visitors ask a question, and the assistant answers in seconds from the pages you choose \u2013 your About, FAQ, Services, Shipping or Contact page \u2013 instead of making them search.<\/p>\n\n
It answers only from your content. When the answer is not on your pages, it says so and points the visitor to your contact page or email address instead of making something up.<\/p>\n\n
Features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n You need an OpenAI API key.<\/strong> AnswerKite uses your own OpenAI account (see \"External services\" below). OpenAI bills you directly; with the default gpt-4o-mini model an answer usually costs a fraction of a cent, and learning a page costs a fraction of a cent once (and again only when the page changes).<\/p>\n\n AnswerKite Pro is a separate plugin, sold at answerkite.com<\/a>. It is not needed for anything this plugin does; it adds features this plugin does not have, for websites and WooCommerce stores:<\/p>\n\n Your API key and settings move over automatically when you install Pro.<\/p>\n\n This plugin connects to the OpenAI API<\/strong> (https:\/\/api.openai.com) to understand your pages and to write answers. It is required for the chatbot to work and is only used after you enter your own OpenAI API key.<\/p>\n\n What is sent, and when:<\/p>\n\n No visitor names, email addresses, IP addresses, cookies or WordPress keys are sent. OpenAI may keep API data for a limited time under its own policies; see its terms. You need your own OpenAI account with API billing set up. The service is provided by OpenAI: Terms of use<\/a>, Privacy policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n The plugin does not contact any other service. Links to answerkite.com in the dashboard are ordinary links; nothing is loaded from that site.<\/p>\n\n\n Tip: you can also put the key in wp-config.php instead: The plugin is free. The answers are written by OpenAI, which bills your own OpenAI account for usage \u2013 usually a fraction of a cent per answer. Use \"Answers per day\" to cap your costs.<\/p><\/dd>\n It is instructed to answer only from your selected pages and extra information, and to send visitors to your contact page when the answer is not there. AI can still make mistakes, so keep your pages accurate and use \"Try a question\" to check. The chat window tells visitors that answers are AI-generated.<\/p><\/dd>\n Click Update knowledge base<\/strong> on the AnswerKite screen after you edit the selected pages; the screen tells you when pages changed since the last update. (AnswerKite Pro does this automatically.)<\/p><\/dd>\n As many as you choose. Pages are learned a few at a time while the AnswerKite screen shows a progress bar, so even large sites do not time out. Each page is sent to OpenAI once to create its search data, and again only when it changes, so the cost stays small. Your site stores only your settings and the text of the selected pages.
