In a scan of 43,077 small business websites, 4,338 (10%) showed a copyright year that was out of date.<\/p>\n\n<p>Most of those years are typed into a theme option or a footer widget, so they never change on their own. This plugin fixes them without touching the theme.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Automatic fix (on by default)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>Finds a year that comes right after a copyright mark (\u00a9, &amp;copy;, (c) or the word Copyright) inside your page footer, and updates it as the page is sent.<\/li>\n<li>Keeps your first year by default: \"\u00a9 2019\" becomes \"\u00a9 2019\u20132026\". Or pick \"current year only\".<\/li>\n<li>Changes only the footer. \"Founded in 2012\" in your page text is never touched.<\/li>\n<li>Writes nothing to your theme or database. Switch it off and the original footer is back.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Check my footer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Settings &gt; Copyright Year loads your front page as it looks without the plugin and lists each year it would update, so you can see the fix before a visitor does.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Shortcodes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li><code>[mwcy_year]<\/code> prints the current year.<\/li>\n<li><code>[mwcy_copyright from=\"2015\" text=\"Your Business\"]<\/code> prints \"\u00a9 2015\u20132026 Your Business\".<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Both work in posts, pages, blocks and text widgets.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>No tracking, no external calls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The only request the plugin makes is to your own front page, and only when you press \"Check my footer now\".<\/p>\n\n<p>This plugin was written with the help of an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic) and reviewed and tested before release.<\/p>\n\n<!--section=installation-->\n<ol>\n<li>Install from Plugins &gt; Add New (search \"Mailwick Copyright Year\"), or upload the zip.<\/li>\n<li>Activate it.
