Once it's saved, it's in your database, your backups and your search results, and it's your problem.<\/p>\n\n<p>Scrubwell removes that information before it is saved.<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Two layers.<\/strong> Visitors see <code>[REDACTED PHONE]<\/code> appear as they type, so they know what happened. Your server removes it again when the comment arrives, so bots and visitors with JavaScript turned off are covered too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Leaves the right fields alone.<\/strong> The comment form's own Name, Email and Website fields are never touched.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No outside service.<\/strong> Everything runs on your site and in the visitor's browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Counts what it catches.<\/strong> See how many items were removed under Settings \u2192 Scrubwell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Free version removes:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>Email addresses<\/li>\n<li>US and Canadian phone numbers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h4>Scrubwell Pro<\/h4>\n\n<p>Pro adds credit and debit card numbers (checked with the card-number checksum, so order numbers aren't caught), Social Security numbers, bank routing and account numbers, and US street addresses. It also adds a \"Send anyway\" button for the types you allow (with a log), a \"never remove\" list, a per-post off switch, a choice of roles to skip, and protection for Contact Form 7 messages, bbPress and BuddyPress posts and private messages, and WooCommerce order notes.<\/p>\n\n<!--section=installation-->\n<ol>\n<li>Upload the plugin and activate it.<\/li>\n<li>Go to Settings \u2192 Scrubwell to choose what to remove.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<!--section=faq-->\n<dl>\n<dt id=\"will%20it%20remove%20the%20email%20a%20commenter%20types%20into%20the%20email%20field%3F\"><h3>Will it remove the email a commenter types into the Email field?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>No. Only the comment text is filtered.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"are%20administrators%20filtered%3F\"><h3>Are administrators filtered?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Not by default. Turn off \"Don't filter site administrators\" if you want them filtered too.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"can%20i%20turn%20it%20off%20for%20one%20field%3F\"><h3>Can I turn it off for one field?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Adding <code>data-scrubwell=\"off\"<\/code> to a field (or a wrapper around it) turns off the as-you-type removal in the browser for that field. The server still removes private info when the text arrives, because it can't trust markup sent by a visitor's browser.<\/p>\n\n<p>To turn off the server side too, use the <code>scrubwell_skip<\/code> filter in a small plugin or your theme's functions.php. Return a list of values to keep, such as <code>(214) 555-0100<\/code> or <code>@example.com<\/code> (every address at that domain).
