Until an API base URL is set,\nlooking up a domain shows a \"MarketXY API is not configured yet\" message\ninstead of a report.<\/p>\n\n<h3>External services<\/h3>\n\n<p>This plugin connects to the following third-party services:<\/p>\n\n<ol>\n<li><p><strong>MarketXY API<\/strong> \u2014 used to retrieve the domain, company, security and\ntrust intelligence shown in the lookup report. Once a site owner has\nentered an API base URL under MarketXY \u2192 Settings, the domain name being\nlooked up is sent to that API at the time each lookup is performed, and\nthe report data is returned for display. This service is provided by\nMarketXY: <a href=\"https:\/\/marketxy.com\/terms-of-use\/\">Terms of Service<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/marketxy.com\/privacy-policy\/\">Privacy Policy<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p><strong>Clearbit Logo API<\/strong> \u2014 used to show the looked-up domain's own\ncompany logo next to its report, and next to each related\/competitor\ndomain listed in the report. Each time a report is rendered, the browser\nrequests that domain's logo directly from Clearbit\n(https:\/\/logo.clearbit.com), which receives the requesting site visitor's\nIP address and the domain name being looked up. This service is provided\nby Clearbit: <a href=\"https:\/\/clearbit.com\/terms\">Terms of Service<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/clearbit.com\/privacy-policy\">Privacy Policy<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p><strong>Google (favicons)<\/strong> \u2014 used as a fallback to show a domain's site\nicon when Clearbit has no logo for it. Each time this fallback is needed,\nthe browser requests that domain's favicon directly from Google's public\nfavicon service (https:\/\/www.google.com\/s2\/favicons), which receives the\nrequesting site visitor's IP address and the domain name being looked\nup. This service is provided by Google: <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.google.com\/terms\">Terms of Service<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.google.com\/privacy\">Privacy Policy<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<!--section=installation-->\n<ol>\n<li>Upload the <code>marketxy-lookup<\/code> folder to <code>\/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/code>\n(or install the zip via <strong>Plugins \u2192 Add New \u2192 Upload Plugin<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Activate the plugin through the <strong>Plugins<\/strong> menu in WordPress<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>MarketXY \u2192 Settings<\/strong> and enter your API base URL<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>MarketXY \u2192 Lookup<\/strong> to try it, or add <code>[marketxy_lookup]<\/code> to any\npage or post<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<!--section=faq-->\n<dl>\n<dt id=\"do%20i%20need%20an%20api%20base%20url%20to%20use%20this%3F\"><h3>Do I need an API base URL to use this?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Yes. Every lookup calls the MarketXY API using the base URL configured\nunder MarketXY \u2192 Settings; until one is set, lookups return a\n\"not configured yet\" message instead of a report.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"is%20the%20api%20base%20url%20or%20its%20response%20data%20ever%20exposed%20to%20site%20visitors%3F\"><h3>Is the API base URL or its response data ever exposed to site visitors?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>The API base URL itself is a server-side setting never sent to the\nbrowser.
