When a visitor is worth following up with, their details are captured. When a conversation needs a person, it moves to your team.

Set up in one step

Install the plugin, open Settings -> Stewie, and select Connect to Stewie. You approve the site once in your Stewie account and the plugin handles the rest. There is no script tag to paste, no theme file to edit, and no child theme to maintain.

What it does

Answers from your content. Stewie indexes the pages and documents you choose, and answers from them.

Captures leads. Contact details a visitor shares are recorded and delivered where you want them.

Hands off to a human. A conversation can move to your team when the agent is not the right answer.

Speaks the visitor's language. The widget matches the language of the page it loads on, across 18 languages.

Stays out of your way. The plugin is a thin connector. It adds one settings screen and nothing else to your admin.

Where things are managed

Appearance, persona, knowledge, conversations, and handoff all live in your Stewie account at stewie.io. This plugin's only job is connecting the site and loading the agent on your public pages, which is what keeps it small.

Requirements

A Stewie account.

A public site served over HTTPS. HTTP-only and intranet sites cannot pass the widget's domain check.

External Services

This plugin connects your site to Stewie, a hosted service at stewie.io. The plugin is not functional without it.

When an administrator selects Connect to Stewie, the browser sends the CMS type, the site's HTTPS origin, a random one-time state value, and the WordPress callback URL to
https://stewie.io/connect/cms
. After approval, WordPress sends the returned short-lived code, the site origin, and the stored one-time state to
https://stewie.io/api/cms/exchange
. Stewie returns the public company ID. These requests occur only when an administrator starts the connection.

When an administrator opens Settings -> Stewie with a saved company ID, the plugin may request
https://stewie.io/api/inline-config
at most once per hour. It sends the public company ID as a query parameter and the site's origin in the HTTP
Origin
header. This checks whether the site is allowed and whether the widget is enabled.

On public pages, visitors' browsers request
https://stewie.io/api/embed.js
with the public company ID. The loader then requests the widget configuration and hosted widget from stewie.io. Normal HTTP request metadata, including the site's origin, is sent with these requests. If a visitor uses the agent, their messages and any contact details they choose to provide are sent to Stewie so the service can answer and perform the configured handoff.

Use of the service is governed by the Stewie Terms of Service and Stewie Privacy Policy.

Upload the
stewie-ai-chatbot
folder to
/wp-content/plugins/
, or install the plugin through the WordPress Plugins screen.

Activate Stewie AI Agent.

Open Settings -> Stewie.

Select Connect to Stewie, sign in if needed, and approve the site on stewie.io.

Return to WordPress and confirm that the status says Connected.

If the automatic connection is unavailable, copy the company ID from Stewie Settings -> Install, paste it into the Company ID field under Manual setup, and save.

Do I need a Stewie account?

Yes.
