It is cookieless by design: no cookies, no\ncross-site tracking, no IP addresses stored. Visitor country\nis derived from network edge headers when present; no GeoIP database of\npersonal data is kept. Raw event data is retained for 90 days (adjustable via the <code>retention_days<\/code>\nsetting) and then deleted automatically; aggregated daily statistics are kept. All\ndata stays in your WordPress database and is removed completely when the\nplugin is deleted.<\/p>\n\n<!--section=installation-->\n<ol>\n<li>Install and activate the plugin through the Plugins screen in WordPress.<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>Fogless<\/strong> menu item to view your dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>That's it \u2014 tracking starts immediately; no configuration is required.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<!--section=faq-->\n<dl>\n<dt id=\"do%20i%20need%20a%20cookie%20consent%20banner%20for%20this%3F\"><h3>Do I need a cookie consent banner for this?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Fogless sets no cookies and stores no personal data such as IP addresses. A\nvisitor is counted using a one-way salted hash that changes every day, so\nvisitors cannot be tracked across days. In most GDPR interpretations this\nqualifies as consent-free analytics \u2014 but the legal assessment of your site\nis always yours to make.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"how%20is%20a%20visitor%20counted%20without%20cookies%3F\"><h3>How is a visitor counted without cookies?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Each pageview is attributed to a hash of (IP address + browser + your site\nhost) keyed with a salt that is regenerated daily and the old salt discarded.\nThe IP address itself is used only transiently in memory and never written to\nthe database.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"does%20it%20work%20with%20woocommerce%3F\"><h3>Does it work with WooCommerce?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Yes \u2014 out of the box. Fogless records revenue, orders, conversion rate and\naverage order value, attributes orders to the visitor's acquisition channel\n(last non-direct source), shows your top products and a five-step funnel from\nvisit to purchase.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"does%20it%20slow%20my%20site%20down%3F\"><h3>Does it slow my site down?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>No. The tracking beacon is a ~2 kB script that fires once per pageview,\nasynchronously, and never blocks rendering. Dashboard queries read from daily\nrollup tables, and old raw data is pruned automatically.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"does%20the%20dashboard%20keep%20hitting%20my%20server%20while%20it%20is%20open%3F\"><h3>Does the dashboard keep hitting my server while it is open?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>No. The live panel refreshes about every 15 seconds, but only while the\ndashboard tab is actually in the foreground and you are working in it. When you\nswitch tabs it stops completely, and after a few minutes without interaction it\nstands down until you come back. On a slow server it automatically backs off\nfurther, so it never queues requests faster than the site can answer them.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"where%20is%20my%20data%20stored%3F\"><h3>Where is my data stored?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>In your own WordPress database. Nothing is sent to any external service \u2014\nthe plugin makes no outside requests at all (even fonts are bundled).<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"is%20anything%20limited%20or%20locked%20in%20this%20plugin%3F\"><h3>Is anything limited or locked in this plugin?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>No. Every feature listed above is fully functional, with no license key, trial\nperiod or usage limit. A separate plugin available from our website adds\nfurther functionality (journey visualisation, automatic recommendations,\ne-mail reports and CSV exports), but nothing here depends on it.<\/p><\/dd>\n<dt id=\"how%20long%20is%20my%20data%20kept%3F\"><h3>How long is my data kept?<\/h3><\/dt>\n<dd><p>Raw event data is kept for 90 days by default and then pruned automatically;\naggregated daily statistics are kept indefinitely.
