## Description

By default WordPress sends every email from **wordpress@yourdomain.com** with the

sender name **WordPress**. Recipients see an address nobody recognises, and spam
filters treat it with suspicion.

This plugin changes the WordPress sender email and the from name. Two fields, one

settings page, nothing else to configure.

#### What it changes

 * The **from email address** on every email WordPress sends
 * The **from name** shown in the recipient’s inbox

It applies to password resets, new user notifications, comment notifications, and

email from contact form and WooCommerce plugins that send through WordPress.

#### How it works

The plugin hooks the standard `wp_mail_from` and `wp_mail_from_name` filters. No

files are modified and nothing is stored beyond the two settings. Deactivate it
and WordPress returns to its own defaults immediately.

#### What it does not do

It does not send email itself. If your email is not arriving at all, the problem

is delivery rather than the sender address, and you need an SMTP plugin. Changing
the from address helps with how your email looks, and is often enough to keep it
out of spam, but it cannot fix a server that is failing to send.

## FAQ

### How do I change the WordPress from email address?

Go to Settings, then WP Default Mail. Enter the address you want in the Sender

Mail ID field and save. Every email WordPress sends then comes from that address.

### How do I change the sender name on WordPress emails?

The same screen has a Sender Name field. Whatever you enter there replaces
 “WordPress”
in the recipient’s inbox.

### Does this work with Contact Form 7, WPForms or WooCommerce?

Yes, for any plugin that sends through WordPress itself. Those plugins call
 wp_mail(),
and this plugin filters the sender on that call. A plugin that sends through its
own SMTP connection, bypassing WordPress, sets its own sender.

### Will this stop my emails going to spam?

Often it helps. A recognisable from address at your own domain looks far less
 suspicious
than wordpress@yourdomain. It is not a complete answer on its own: spam filtering
also depends on the SPF and DKIM records for your domain.

### My emails are not arriving at all. Will this fix that?

No. That is a delivery problem, not a sender problem. Use an SMTP plugin to route

your email through a real mail server, and use this plugin alongside it to control
how the sender appears.

### What happens if I leave the fields empty?

WordPress uses its own defaults. The plugin only steps in once you have set an

address, and it ignores an address that is not valid.

### Does it work on multisite?

Yes. Settings are per site, so each site in the network has its own sender.

Kudos to the developer for making a simple plugin that does the job. There are just
two fields (sender's Name and Email address) to set and forget – tucked neatly away
under the wordpress Settings menu. I tried a few others, but their settings had
several extra options, which make it a bit confusing for those who don't know about
email protocol. E.g. "Use return path / Don't use return path", sender port number,
SSL or TLS?

## Changelog

#### 2.2.1

 * Rewrote the plugin listing so people searching for “change sender email” or
    “
from email address” can actually find it. No change to how the plugin works.
 * The plugin is now called Change Sender Email – From Name and From Address.
    Your
settings, and the plugin folder, are untouched.

#### 2.2.0

 * Fixed: on a site that had not saved any settings yet, outgoing mail was sent

with an empty From address and an empty sender name, and two PHP warnings were
raised on every message. The plugin now leaves WordPress’s own values in place
until a sender is configured, and ignores an invalid address.
 * Updated the bundled Freemius SDK from 2.5.6 to 2.13.4, which resolves the
    PHP
8.2 to 8.5 deprecation notices raised on every page load.
 * Tested up to WordPress 7.1. Declared a minimum of PHP 7.0.

#### 2.1.0

 * Improvements in security best practices
 * Added support for opt in signup option for updates

#### 2.0

 * Stores default sender name from blog name and email ID as support@yourwebsite.
