This plugin makes it easier to share blog post since all posts automatically gets a shortened URL generated by

Click statistics is shown for each post and also as a dashboard widget (can be toggled).

Get the shortened URL by using the functions WGBitlyHelper::the_short_link( $post_id = null ) and WGBitlyHelper::get_short_link( $post_id = null ).


  • Generate shortlinks for all existing posts.
  • Handle exceeded rate limit.


  • The settings view.
  • A published post with box displaying the shortened URL and stats.


  1. Download the plugin and extract it into /wp-content/plugins/.
  2. Activate the plugin at the plugins menu in the admin dashboard.
  3. Enter your username and API key in the settings section Tools > WG


How do I generate a shortened URL for an existing post?

Update the post, without making any changes to it, and the URL will be generated.

Why does it say that there is no URL generated for post x?

That might be because of the following reasons:

  1. You have set the username and API key in the settings view.
  2. The post is only a draft. Shortened URLs will be generated for published, private or future posts.

Changed spelling of helper functions that retrieved the shortened URL. Their names are:

  • WGBitlyHelper::the_short_link( $post_id = null )
  • WGBitlyHelper::get_short_link( $post_id = null )


Added a feature to get the shortened URL by code. Similar to the_permalink() and get_permalink(), the functions WGBitlyHelper::the_short_url( $post_id = null ) and WGBitlyHelper::get_short_url( $post_id = null ) will output a link and return the URL, respectively.
